With global warming on the rampage and temperatures rising with every passing year, the need for air conditioners is being felt like never before. Compound to that the fact that the price on this appliance has dropped considerably increasing its affordability and you can see why it is being demanded as a basic necessity of any space to be occupied by humans.
But then let’s not forget that there exists a scenario where the need for air conditioning does not stem from the need for human comfort but rather for the protection of machines and equipment. This is where industrial air conditioners come in.
Often high-precision electronic manufacturing equipment, testing instruments and even sophisticated computers need a certain level of ambient temperature to allow it to function properly and to prevent damage to them.
This is primarily why industrial air conditioning products came into existence. The fact that this allows the employees working in these manufacturing units or labs to enjoy comfortable working is merely a beneficial fall out of the more pressing need to protect the equipment.
That being said it can’t be denied that one rarely finds an office nowadays that is not air conditioned. This might be because managements of corporations have realized that providing a comfortable working environment for their employees promises better efficiency from them. And in part because we are increasingly being forced to fight the “sick building syndrome” becoming a norm in today’s urban life. This is phenomena of the air within building being ridden with toxic fumes and gases emanating from modern building materials or just due to the lack of proper ventilation.
This has lead to office spaces becoming the breeding ground for conditions like lethargy, tiredness and stress related problems. This is yet another situation where industrial air conditioners are turned to for a solution.
Industrial air conditioners have become indispensable to several industries – from lab facilities and clean rooms to warehouse, assembly plants and even plain office buildings. There are several different technologies to opt for when one is looking for an industrial air conditioner although split – unit system has emerged to as one of the more popular choices.
This may be because of the higher efficiency rate and level of control it offers. In a factory or an industrial plant more than anywhere else the load of air conditioning varies drastically among various spaces and this is difficult to control in a central air conditioning system. However the introduction of boosters at strategic locations can increase the flexibility of ducting in a ceiling concealed ducted type indoor air conditioning system.
Because of the heavy duty nature of refrigeration and air conditioning that is required in industries most “ready to operate” solutions like portable air conditioners, evaporative air conditioners and window units do not find much application in this segment.
Though there are some exceptions like the Kwikcool portable 10 ton air conditioner and the MovinCool MCCL 60, which is 60,000 BTU portable air conditioners especially designed for industrial use.
In recent years with rising environmental concerns, manufactures of industrial air conditioners have started to think out of the box when it comes to the design of their newer models. The hot target now is to come up with solutions that are environment friendly with efficient performance ratings. Hence they have started looking into designing industrial air conditioners based on peltier technology which essentially involves the use of thermoelectric units for heating and cooling purposes.
Some have even gone to the extent of proposing industrial air conditioners based on natural gas which apparently operates at merely a few cents a day.
